Russia dolls drawings

I drew various of Russia doll with pencils to create pattern, tones and shade.

Russia architecture

I drew architectural drawings of some of the iconic buildings found in Russia that have their own style and sense of curiosity! In these pages i have used a number of mixed media, such as fine liner, pencil, water colours, etc.

Specific areas in floral pattern that interest me.

These pictures shows me using mixed media to zoom into a particular area of pattern that interests me and developing it using a variety of techniques for example continuous line (fine line) with water etc. I used a variety  of paper styles to get a varied approachs.

Ceramic tests No.2

I have made two tiles with four different types of glazes. I drew patterns onto lino first and cut this out leaving a pattern behind. I used the lino to print my design into white stoneware. The pattern I created is often found on Russian Easter eggs. I  added lots of tiny pieces of glass on top of the tiles with the glaze to see how the glazes change colour in the kiln with the glass.

Ceramic tests

I'm making a Russian doll samples in two halves out of Porcelain slip froma cast (mould) of a Russian doll. This will be biscuit fired in the kiln. This week and next week i will glaze it and fire again.

Exploring pattern No.2

I used a variety of different threads on the sewing machine to create this pattern which I think looks beautiful, colourful and in keeping with Russian textiles and culture.

Exploring patterns

These photographs show that I used mixed media to create the pattern using a veriety of techniques e.g. continuous line drawings using a fine liner and tracing paper etc. I used screen printing and worked back into the patterns using the sewing machine and by adding foil.
